FastStone Image Viewer enables you to easily browse your image files and folders, and view the selected items. However, the application does more than this; whether you decide to use it, you discover that it is also an image editor, a converter, and a file manager.
The utility comes with an intuitive and easy-to-use interface which allows you to quickly search through your computer directories. Once an image folder is selected, the component files are conveniently displayed within the right panel as thumbnail, report, or small icon views. You are able to see your photos one at a time, both within a small-sized window and in full screen mode. I was pleasantly surprised to notice that not only you can access your image collection, but also you can visualize video files recorded with your camera. If you want to watch a movie, the content of the corresponding file is automatically opened with your default media player.
One impressive feature of this application is related to viewing the image files expanded on the entire screen. Obviously, a bigger picture lets you have a fair view upon the image. Yet, what's great about this app is that you are provided with fly-out menu panels ready to pop up when you move your mouse pointer to the four borders of the desktop. This way, you can fast access the major functions of the program and the photo EXIF metadata, as well as easily navigate through files and folders.
As for an image editor, you are enabled to perform basic changes of the original, such as resize, rotate, crop, correct skin imperfections, remove red-eye errors, adjust colors and lighting issues, and thus get a natural look of the picture. Additionally, you can apply a series of special artistic effects that will enhance the quality of the images. The app comes with a wide palette of slideshow transition samples which helps you create a pleasant and relaxing mood when viewing your photo collection. You may add a favorite soundtrack and the atmosphere is perfect.
FastStone Image Viewer is a smart application which offers the right tools for image browsing and editing. It also acts as an image converter, meaning that you can save the original format with another file extension. It seems that the program supports touch screen; I didn't test it, but I consider it a great feature to take into account.
